Cardiff and Vale UHB colleagues awarded MBE in New Year's Honours List

Congratulations to Dr Hamsaraj Shetty and Professor Antony Johansen who have been awarded an MBE in the 2024 New Year’s Honours List.

Dr Shetty, Consultant Physician at the University Hospital of Wales, has been recognised for his services to Stroke Services in Wales.

Dr Shetty has worked in stroke services for over 30 years. In 2018, he received the First Welsh Stroke Excellence Award.

Professor Antony Johansen, Consultant Ortho-Geriatrician, has been recognised for his services to older people.

Prof Johansen has worked in the trauma unit at the University Hospital of Wales since 1997 and was the first consultant to be appointed as a full-time orthogeriatrician in the UK.

Suzanne Rankin, CEO, and Charles ‘Jan’ Janczewski, Chair to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, said: “We are incredibly proud of Dr Shetty and Professor Johansen for their dedicated work to support people across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and Wales. This is a well-deserved testament to their contributions to the NHS.

“Dr Shetty has spent his career championing stroke services in Wales and has been instrumental in developing services in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and across Wales.

“Prof Johansen established the orthogeriatrics speciality and developed two key resources to help people around the world understand and improve the care of patients.

“On behalf of the Health Board, we extend our congratulations to Dr Shetty and Professor Johansen.”
