Youth Homeless Helpline Volunteer

For thousands of the most vulnerable people in Wales, homelessness is a frightening reality. Our Freephone helpline provides information and advocacy to young people across Wales who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our aim is to ensure young people understand their rights and feel empowered to access the support they need when they need it. This role is homebased.

You will:

  • Respond to helpline calls

  • Listen to young people in a non-judgmental and empathetic way

  • Provide tailored information, signpost/refer to appropriate services and offer advocacy when appropriate

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times whilst also considering safeguarding issues

  • Record accurate information

  • Participate in training, supervision and debrief sessions

Full training and ongoing support is provided. This is a home working opportunity, anywhere across Wales.

Time commitment:  Volunteering hours can differ week by week but we ask you put yourself forward for at least one four hour shift per week, with a maximum of 12 hours. Shifts are evenings and weekends. The helpline operates between 5pm - 9am Monday to Thursday 5pm - 9am Friday to Monday.
Expenses reimbursed: Out of pocket expenses are reimbursed.

Full training is provided.
Selection procedure:
Informal discussion, application form completion, 2 references and a disclosure and barring check (cost met by organisation)
