East Vale Community Transport's news update

London Marathon

Dorren Goodman and Karen George ran for the bus! Two buses in fact.

Both ladies ran the London Marathon on Sunday, April 21st to raise funds for East Vale Community Transport. All together they raised a whopping £730

Neither ladies was doing it for speed but for the experience, and they enjoyed a few London landmarks on the way.

They celebrated with left over Easter eggs, a hot chocolate and a trip to Harrods. Dorren is a carer from Cogan, and Karen is a  veterinary receptionist from Pontycymer.

Working in the care sector Dorren sees the need for community transport in Penarth and the eastern Vale. She realised, especially after Covid, people were glad to be getting out and about again, meeting up with friends for coffee, lunches pottery glasses, dementia day centre, bra fittings at M & S and other everyday events that others take for granted.

EVCT drivers are volunteers and since Covid 19 their journeys have increased almost 100% and there is a huge need for the time they give to help people to maintain their independence.  EVCT are always on the lookout for more volunteer drivers.

Claire Pearce, Co-ordinator at EVCT was delighted when Dorren suggested raising funds for the charity. 'EVCT has been supporting the community of Eastern Vale for 38 years' she says 'it is wonderful to receive assistance from within the community. Thanks to our dedicated volunteer drivers, we offer a bespoke service'.

We are truly grateful to both them. The money will make such a difference to many.
